Each edition of this ezine is a work of love on the part of our contributors. We have no paid personnel nor does anyone earn anything. Every article is written as a prayer for our readers to be strengthened in their personal walk with Jesus. I thank these brothers and sisters for their commitment and love.

As we move forward, we are learning. During the next months we'll be trying some new approaches, offering some added features. Keep checking back.

Once again this month Pastor Espinosa continues his study of Why We Study God's Word. This time he reminds us that our sinful flesh resists the very idea of Bible study. Consequently, the only way to battle that resistance is to crucify the old Adam.

Larry Harvey begins a series of articles on the eight Beatitudes spoken by Jesus in His Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5.

Pastor Dobberfuhl continues to reflect upon the Bible and life on his daily walks. This month he shares a wonderful story about a pastor confronted with the task of making peace at the very beginning of his ministry in a particular congregation. Pr. D. reminds us that we are all called to be peace makers.

In the first of my two articles I point to the severe problem we face in Texas as we attempt to carry out a recent law permitting the Bible to be taught in public high schools.

My final article points to the reality that there are many men called Jesus by the Jews, Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses and others. The only true Jesus is the Jesus of the Bible.

We love to hear from you. Please continue sharing your thoughts and suggestions. We will always consider submitted articles or topics for upcoming issues.

I ran across a most interesting Blog a few days ago on the millennialist website Grace Through Faith. The article by an unnamed author tells about Seven Men Named Jesus, the Jesus of Judaism, Islam’s Issa, Mormonism’s polygamist, the Jehovah’s Witnesses’ incarnate angel, the Master Teacher of modern Christianity, the Ascended Master of the New Age movement and finally the Jesus of the Bible. I borrow generously from that article.

Osama Bin Laden’s Sept. 7th video
opens with Allah’s Law of retaliation: “An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth and the killer is killed. All praise is due to Allah” (cfs Surah 5:45, Surah 2:178,179,194). He also praises the Mujahideen (“holy warriors”) who willingly give their lives in Jihad. It is this cycle of revenge and retribution that presently fuels the fires of violence.

Raining this morning so I did not take a walk. Really typical January Texas weather, cold, rainy, cloudy, and then some sun. I read a line the other day that says it for me, “I have reached the years that, when I wake up and nothing aches, it’s a good day.” Truth.

My son sent an email after Sunday that read, “The Packers lost , on their home field, at zero temperature, with Brett Fabre at the controls, and the wind chill at twenty below,  and the sun rose this morning just the same”.

Perspective. That’s one secret for keeping one's balance in today’s world, isn’t it? Put it into perspective and it starts to look less overwhelming.

Governor Mitt Romney is currently vying for the Republican Party's nomination for President of the United States. Mitt Romney is an active member of the Mormon Church, also known as the Latter Day Saints. Those facts have raised again the question about whether Mormons are Christians. To many of us, the answer to that question is a resounding No! Mormons are not and never have been Christians, particularly if you measure them by the historical Creeds accepted by the vast majority of Christians.

Lutherans evaluate any church body's claims on the basis of two principles we call the Formal and the Material. These two principles relate to one another and depend upon one another. A 1972 report of the Missouri Synod's Commission on Theology and Church Relations on Read More »
