Each edition of this ezine is a work of love on the part of our contributors. We have no paid personnel nor does anyone earn anything. Every article is written as a prayer for our readers to be strengthened in their personal walk with Jesus. I thank these brothers and sisters for their commitment and love.

As we move forward, we are learning. During the next months we'll be trying some new approaches, offering some added features. Keep checking back.

Once again this month Pastor Espinosa continues his study of Why We Study God's Word. This time he reminds us that our sinful flesh resists the very idea of Bible study. Consequently, the only way to battle that resistance is to crucify the old Adam.

Larry Harvey begins a series of articles on the eight Beatitudes spoken by Jesus in His Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5.

Pastor Dobberfuhl continues to reflect upon the Bible and life on his daily walks. This month he shares a wonderful story about a pastor confronted with the task of making peace at the very beginning of his ministry in a particular congregation. Pr. D. reminds us that we are all called to be peace makers.

In the first of my two articles I point to the severe problem we face in Texas as we attempt to carry out a recent law permitting the Bible to be taught in public high schools.

My final article points to the reality that there are many men called Jesus by the Jews, Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses and others. The only true Jesus is the Jesus of the Bible.

We love to hear from you. Please continue sharing your thoughts and suggestions. We will always consider submitted articles or topics for upcoming issues.

Marriage and Family

When Pastor Henry Gray accepted the call, he saw it as a call to serve a church where he could do some very effective work. He saw before him a field where his special talents and personal growth in ministry would be most useful for the kingdom. So, after much prayer and thought, he accepted the call.

An interesting sidelight was that the District President, a son of this congregation, had urged Pastor Gray to accept. He installed Gray as pastor in a June evening service. The service was well attended and, at the reception after, the members showed their excitement about having a new pastor after nearly a year.

Of course there were problems. The circuit counselor and the congregation’s leadership were forthright in laying out the work the ne ... Read More »

A couple years ago I came across a Reuters article by Joanne Morrison. It was titled "Marriage builds wealth more than being single." I couldn't find a copy of it posted on the Internet any longer, but I saved the article, because I found it very interesting to learn that the wealth of a married person is almost double that of somebody who is single.

Apparently marriage is not merely the combining of the resources of two people. According to a study by Jay Zagorsky of Ohio State University's Center for Human Resource Research, "Those who remained together saw a 93 percent gain in wealth compared to that of a single person. Individuals facing divorce saw their financial ... Read More »

The Bible teaches the value and importance of Motherhood in the commandment to "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you" (Exodus 20:12) and in the Proverb: "My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother" (Prov. 1:8). In the Word of God respect for one's mother ranks next to reverence for God whose representative she is. Unfortunately, that is not always the way motherhood is viewed in American culture.

An anonymous Mom defended her motherhood with the following story.

A woman, renewing her driver's license at the County Clerk Office was asked by the woman recorder to state her occupation. She hesitated, uncertain how to classify herself. "What I mean is" explained the reco ...

I’m having a difficult time with this. Al asked me to write about my journey back to faith. For some reason, I kept putting it off. It’s much harder than I realized it would be. It’s because I’m still in the process of returning. I’m not all right in God’s eyes, and that’s very difficult to admit.

I turned my back on God and my faith after my father died and my mother was horribly injured in a plane crash in February of 1992. I was still in college, just about to graduate when my world fell apart. But it was also an “appropriate” time for breaking away from old beliefs, trying new things. If I had a close church family I might have had more support, but there had ... December is such a busy month. There is so much going on that we are liable to forget that the season is all about a Child born into a wonderful family, sent by our heavenly Father to rescue us all from eternal death.

Christmas Parable

Arlene and I are so excited about us finally being a family, not just a married couple. You will have to forgive me if I don't stop talking about Megan, our new baby daughter. There has never been a little girl more wonderful than her. I know, I know. I'm carrying on like a new daddy, but that's what I am and I can't stop bubbling and acting foolish. I brag about her ...
